There’s nothing more annoying than looking in the mirror mid-afternoon to see your makeup as all but worn off. Here’s how to keep your cosmetics on lockdown, even in this summer heat!
6 Tips to Having Your Makeup Last All Day #theeverygirl

The good news is there are steps you can take to make your makeup last all day and we’re here to share them with you. With these failproof tips, there’s no doubt that your makeup will beat the heat.

1. start with a clean canvas

We all know that oil and water don’t mix. The oils on your face aren’t an exception to that rule! An oily face will make makeup melt off quicker than you can imagine.

If you really want your makeup to last, start with a clean face. Remove any excess dirt and oil by washing with a gentle cleanser. After patting your skin dry, apply a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer with SPF (we Everygirls know how to multi-task!). Let it sink in for about three minutes before applying any additional products.

Sleep requirements in children

How much sleep does your child need? This depends on your child’s age, for the most part. Sleep requirements are also dependent on the individual child. Some children don’t need as much sleep as others do.

What are your child’s sleep requirements? Even the experts don’t know for sure.

Sleep has a big impact on our well-being, so it’s understandable that parents want to know if their kids are getting enough. Recent research suggests that something as simple as a well-timed nap makes a difference in how much preschoolers learn (Kurdziel et al 2013). Naps may also enhance learning in babies.

But while it’s clear that sleep is important, there is no easy formula for calculating your child’s personal sleep needs. In fact, the most surprising thing about sleep requirements is how little we know about them (Hunt 2003).

The official-looking recommendations we see everywhere, like the ones in the box below from National Sleep Foundation, are often based on studies of how much time people spend in bed. The charts don’t tell us how much of this time is actually spent sleeping.

Nor do they tell us about how sleep varies cross-culturally. Typically, recommendations about sleep requirements are based on surveys of Western populations (e.g., Blair et al 2012; Iglowstein et al 2003; Armstrong et al 1994; Roffwarg et al 1966).

Most importantly, the charts can’t tell us what your individualized needs are.

Knowing how much time people spend in bed is somewhat helpful, but it doesn’t tell us if these people are getting the right amount of sleep.

As the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research has noted, we need large-scale, controlled studies that measure both sleep and biological outcomes (Hunt 2003). Unfortunately, such studies are uncommon.

Notable exceptions are recent studies focusing on behavior problems and obesity.

For example, a study of 297 Finnish families with children aged 5-6 years, researchers found that kids who slept less than 9 hours each day had 3-5 times the odds of developing attention problems, behavior problems, and other psychiatric symptoms (Paavonen et al 2009).

Another recent study tracked the development of obesity in young children.

In that study, researchers recorded the body weights and sleep habits of kids under five years of age. Then, five years later, they measured the kids again.

The study revealed a link between sleep loss and obesity. Kids who’d gotten less than 10 hours of nighttime sleep at the beginning of the study were twice as likely to become overweight or obese later on (Bell and Zimmerman 2010).

Moreover, researchers found that the timing of sleep mattered. When it came

ATM, debit & credit card security tips

ATMs are a great convenience, but they can compromise your safety if you are not careful. ATM crime can happen anytime anywhere so follow these tips to help keep you and your money safe.

A hand taking a debit card out of an ATM

Think about your personal safety when using an ATM. Because most ATMs give out cash and many accept deposits, it makes sense to be alert and aware of your surroundings no matter where or when you use an ATM. When you’re by yourself, avoid using an ATM in out-of-the-way or deserted areas. Use ATMs located inside banks or supermarkets where other people are around. Use ATMs in well-lit, public areas.

Be sure to look at the ATM. If it looks like someone has tampered with the equipment, don’t use it. (This could mean that a criminal has attached a “skimmer” to the ATM to steal your financial information.) If a suspicious person offers to help you use the ATM, refuse and leave.

Put your money and ATM card away before you leave the ATM. Always avoid showing your cash. Always verify that the amount you withdrew or deposited matches the amount printed on your receipt. Shred or destroy your ATM receipts before you throw them away.

Report loss or theft!

Report lost or stolen credit cards immediately to the company that issued you the card. If your ATM card or debit card is lost or stolen, contact your bank immediately.

To help you respond quickly in case your cards or ID are lost or stolen, make a chart like this one. Be sure to store the list in a safe place. Never carry it with you.

Sign your card

Sign your card on the signature panel as soon as you receive it.

Treat cards like cash

Protect your cards as if they were cash — never let them out of your possession or control. Don’t leave your credit cards …

Have You Tried Agility Ladder Training?

Ladder workouts are one of the best ways to ramp up your fitness level, send your metabolic rate soaring, and help improve your cardiovascular conditioning all at once.

Agility refers to your ability to change positions quickly, using quick, controlled movements. If you’re an athlete, this skill will clearly give you an advantage over your competitors, and it’s commonly used in the military to improve combat performance and general fitness.

However even non-athletes and civilians can benefit from agility training. For starters, agility training is fun. Say goodbye to tedious treadmill workouts that have you counting down the minutes until you’re done. Agility workouts are fast-paced and constantly changing. They keep actively engaged in both mind and body, providing an exciting workout you’ll actually look forward to.

Further, agility training helps to improve your functional movements, which are those you need to get through the day. It improves the rate at which your muscles contract, which otherwise tends to decline as you age. It also improves your balance, including dynamic balance (or balance while you’re in motion), and enhances your natural reflexes so you’ll react with a renewed swiftness.1

If you’ve ever felt like a bit of a klutz, agility training can also be invaluable as it helps with coordination. As you get older, agility training helps you maintain your independence.

There are many different forms of agility training, but one of my favorites is the agility ladder. It provides a platform for virtually unlimited movements to work your entire body.

What Are the Benefits of Agility Ladder Training?

An agility ladder is an inexpensive piece of exercise equipment that you can roll out on any flat surface. You can also “draw” an agility ladder on your floor using tape. You then practice moving through the rungs in various ways.

If you’re just starting out, you may simply walk through the ladder, but as you become more advanced you can progress through sideways shuffles, skipping rungs and much more.

Such movements help to strengthen your joints, ligaments, and tendons while improving coordination and focus. It also provides a workout for your heart. Will Elson, personal training manager at New York Health and Racquet Club in New York City told Reuters:2

“It boosts cardio with fast foot strikes and knee lifts, while incorporating balance and joint stability… It also has the benefits of working on coordination. And it’s fun in a confined space.”

A study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research even found that agility training is as effective or more effective than traditional military physical training at enhancing physical fitness. In addition, agility training had the added benefit of improving cognitive performance as well, including memory and vigilance.3 Elson continued:

“It’s a great exercise to force someone to focus, to learn a movement pattern and be able to execute it without looking down… The body is learning something new.”

30 Agility Ladder Drills

If you’re wondering where to start using an agility ladder, check out the video above, which demonstrates 30 agility ladder exercises designed to increase speed and body control. Aim to do such workouts one or two times a week, and land on the balls of your feet.

Ideally you should try not to look down. Instead, focus on a spot on the ground about one yard in front of your feet. One set of an exercise is generally moving down the ladder and back up again.

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) also recommends agility ladder drills to boost quickness, foot speed, coordination, and body awareness. The following drill should be done using a 10-yard-long agility ladder (or one drawn on the ground with approximately 16″ x 16″ squares between each rung).4

    1. Two-footed Forward/Backward Jumps

“Stand alongside the agility ladder with your chest facing the squares. Quickly jump into the ladder, landing …

12 Subtle Signs of a Loveless Unhappy Marriage

Marriage is not always a bed of roses. A perfect marriage doesn’t exist and it is normal to have those not so happy moments but what if there are more unhappy moments in your marriage than happy times? Save your marriage before its too late.

12 Subtle Signs Of A Loveless Unhappy Marriage

If you’re in a marriage or even in a long term relationship, keep an eye on these subtle signs. You may accept them as a part and parcel of every relationship, but in reality, they can tear your marriage apart even before you realize it.

#1 Emotional affairs. If you’re in a happy marriage, your partner should be your true confidant. You should be happy to communicate with them and share all the pleasant and the sordid details of your life with them. Do you feel more comfortable talking to someone else outside the marriage about your secrets? It may start off as an emotional release, but it would eventually come in your way of marital bliss.

#2 The no-complaints relationship. There are a few relationships where the partners have no complaints about each other at all, because they completely understand each other and their individual points of view, and get along perfectly. If you’re experiencing this grand state of telepathy in your marriage, that’s awesome!

But if you’re in a marriage where you do find faults with your husband or wife, and yet, choose not to talk about it with them because it’s just not worth the effort, that’s just not good. When you lose hope of ever changing your partner or helping them see their flaws, you’re in the no-complaints relationship. Over time, these little annoyances could lead to huge frustrations in your marriage.

#3 You have needs. And these needs aren’t satisfied by your partner. Almost all the time, you find ways to satisfy these needs yourself, be it sexual or emotional. But at the same time, you may constantly find yourself grumbling or whining within your own mind about how much …

Guide for Trenchless Sewer Repair

(c) http://www.rcplumbingca.com/

One very common problem for many people property owners is the sewer problems because it gets really messy every time a sewerage line bursts and even messier once the repair guys dig around your yard to solve the issue. Yet those were the tales of the days of the past as these days most homeowners go for a trenchless sewer line repair method. Thank goodness, these days there is an alternative to the messy sewer repair process, which is to go trenchless. This type of line and pipe repair replaces traditional digging and underground work with pipe rehabilitation. Pipes could be rehabilitated by injecting an epoxy liner in to damaged lines, which seals all cracks and holes once it cures. Listed below are the key advantages that you need to know to help you decide if the trenchless repair is your best option for dealing with your plumbing issues.

1. No dig signifies no reforming of ground, so your yard, driveway, plants, fences, and each and every other feature of your property will stay intact. This would mean lower expenses involved when restoring your sewer line. Yet, some might take advantage of this approach so you’ve got to perform your research and check for a company which is reliable and offers a much lower fee. Compare the prices and use tool such as internet for more choices.

2. One additional clear benefit you get is that the trenchless pipe repair strategy is a lot quicker, efficient, and tidy compared to tradition method. It is because this doesn’t involve digging trenches, which saves lots of time and make it more efficient and tidy.

3. Keeping your yard intact is yet another problem struggling with homeowners whose sewer line needs repair. Because it has no major digging needed, it’s going to result to a lot more intact and less messy yard. You won’t need to worry about your landscape, cable or gas line because it is only going to dig 2 access points.

4. If your yard contains shrubs, trees or other landscaping elements, these may have to be removed in traditional method. But it is no longer essential for trenchless approach.
A trenchless sewer repair can be achieved in 2 ways. The first way which is known as pipe relining, calls for putting a fiber glass liner within the pipes that have been damaged. The second way will have to burst apart the old and damaged pipe as a new sewer pipe is pulled through and put on its place.

These are merely some of the benefits from a trenchless sewer repair. If you’re to compare these benefits to those that other conventional methods offer, trenchless repairs will hand down win. Just do your own research if required so you can make the smartest decision for your home whenever considering trenchless sewer repair for your sewer troubles.

How to Budget When You’re Broke

The process of building a budget can help you to take a hard look at your priorities and to determine whether you’re on track to reaching your financial goals and also to avoid going broke.

It takes commitment and time, but you can learn to manage your money even when there’s not much of it. Follow these steps to set up a budget if you’re broke.

We’ve discussed how to create a basic, real-world budget, but that advice often doesn’t apply when you’re struggling to make ends meet. The basic ideas are the same, but your breakdown of spending is probably going to look a bit different, and everyone’s situation is going to be unique to them. So here’s what you need to do to get back on track.

First: Assess Your Financial Situation

If you have more money going out than coming in, here’s what your financial plan boils down to: spend less and/or earn more. To figure out how to do this, first take an assessment of your income and expenses. This will help you develop a reasonable and realistic budget.

Categorize Your Expenses

Break down your expenses over the past few months. Categorize and separate them into needs and wants. Separating will help you prioritize your finances. To get a clear idea of your needs and wants, consider creating a hierarchy of spending. Organize your debts, too.

Identify Your Problem Spending Areas

Take note of your spending habits. Are there any specific stores you frequent? Do you have a coffee habit that can be cut? Many times, there are “leaks” in a budget that can be plugged. The first step is figuring out where they are. Identify these categories, and keep them in mind once you start your budget.

Cut Back Your Spending

Find ways to reduce your expenses. The first place to start is the “wants” category.

It’s important to allow yourself a little breathing room for fun in your budget. If you don’t, you risk …

Home Solutions For Disabled Person

Probably the toughest, practical concerns for anybody who lives with an inability is the essential activity of taking a bath or shower. It is often also stressful for a caregiver, when he or she must give physical support to a disabled person, particularly if the caregiver isn’t physically able to lift or carry a handicapped patient. Safety is the main concern when it comes to providing a useful disability bathroom in the house. Despite the fact that accessibility is very important, safety is highest because without safety, a disabled person can incur serious injuries regardless how convenient the bathroom really is.

Regardless of whether you possess a completely functional accessible bathroom which adheres to all ADA guidelines or simply a modified disability bathroom that fits your specific needs, listed below are 3 of the most important bathroom handicap safety aids that can give ultimate security and safety. All are rather easy to set up and could be done yourself if you have a bit of handyman savvy.

1. Safety railing – These essential devices may be lifesaving, yet are very affordable. Safety railing round the bathroom area is crucial in providing right help for many bathroom uses by the disabled. Rails should be around the tub, shower, sink, and toilet area. Rails should also be set up in every other area of the room where there is a possibility of loss of balance or slippage. Giving the proper support through safety railings can lessen the incidence of falls substantially in the home bathroom. But remember that grab rails are meant to support your balance, not to take your full weight when holding on to them.

2. Emergency pull cords – Another essential handicap safety aid for the bathroom is surely an emergency system that’s easy to reach in the event of a fall or any other incapacitation. Safety pull cord systems can be bought and easily put in next to the toilet area or shower area for easy reach. An individual need only to reach for the cord and pull, to notify family members in another room that help is required. Numerous systems are affordable, but provide an important safety measure for the disabled.

3. Nonslip floor – Safety is one of the main factors in terms of adding the best flooring for a disability bathroom. Although a home bathroom should be eye appealing, beauty isn’t the number 1 concern when it comes to flooring. Universal design components suggest that a floor should not be conducive to slippage, it must be level and that it also need to be smooth. Among the best flooring for a handicapped design is mosaic tile or vinyl tile, considering that both may be installed to give a non-slip floor covering, while also enabling a level, smooth surface.

They are a number of the functional bathroom aids for the handicapped which are helpful for lots of people who have limited mobility. Make sure to consider features, prices and the needs of your loved one before purchasing exactly what is good for your home bathroom.

10 Everyday Things That Age You

A philosophy of ‘prevention is better than cure’ is the number one thing to remember when it comes to the ageing process of your skin. Begin to look after your skin as early as possible.

Inflammatory Foods

1 OF 10

If your daily meals are filled with foods that cause chronic inflammation, such as vegetable oils, margarine, red meats, white bread, or sugary, processed foods, you’re not doing your skin any favors. These foods can cause inflammation in your body, which may accelerate wrinkle formation. To prevent premature aging, stock up on foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) such as flaxseeds, flaxseed oil, avocados, salmon, and and olive oil. These foods will help your skin maintain its soft and supple look.

Be sure to load up on fruits and veggies, too. Fresh produce is abundant in zinc, selenium, vitamin C, and beta carotene, all of which are key players in the body’s production of collagen (which keeps skin firm), as well as protecting against free radicals. Two good options are red bell peppers and carrots. Simply slice them up for a convenient on-the-go snack you can take anywhere. Not a fan? Try upping your intake of broccoli—just 1 cup has 100 percent of the total daily recommended value of vitamin C.

Lastly, make sure you’re getting enough protein—recent studies show that an insufficient amount of protein can cause tears, wrinkles, and cracks in your skin. Aim to get at least one protein-containing food (for example, eggs, lean beef or poultry, beans) at each meal.

Loss of Human Growth Hormone or HGH

2 OF 10

Your body produces human growth hormone (HGH) in the pituitary gland. Among its many functions, HGH works with collagen to maintain skin and muscle composition. As you age, your body’s natural production of collagen slows, which can lead to looser and thinner skin. While you may not be able to stop time completely in its tracks, you can slow its effects: The results of a 2012 double-blind study on supplement brand SeroVital suggests that certain combinations of amino acids can actually stimulate the body’s production of human growth hormone, which in turn, can help promote collagen production and help you maintain your firm, smooth skin. Both male and female patients given a special blend of amino acids saw a mean increase of more than six times the levels of HGH they started with at the beginning of the study. The patients also experienced faster metabolism and increased endurance. Learn more about this promising anti-aging supplement here!

Anecdotal evidence also seems promising: People who have taken HGH supplements or injections report brighter skin, better hearing, an improved sex drive, and having more energy.

Happy Hour

3 OF 10

Alcohol is a natural diuretic, according to Huffington Post Healthy Living, so the more you drink, the more dehydrated you become. Besides sapping the natural moisture from your skin, excessive alcohol also triggers rosacea outbreaks and exacerbates fine lines, acne, and wrinkles, all of which instantly make you look older. You don’t have to swear off the bottle altogether, but by drinking less, your liver doesn’t have to work as hard to flush out toxins and impurities from your body, and when it works more efficiently, you’ll see the results in your skin.
